This is less about the romance and more about their day to day lives as a married couple. I very seldom read historical fiction about real people, but I think the author did a good job with Hamilton. He was quite the visionary. Oct 03, Maggie rated it liked it. I was hoping this book to reach higher than my low expectations, but it didn't. It was slow moving, and nothing happened. I only enjoyed when Alex was helping Mrs. Childress because there was some jealousy and action. Overall I didn't think it was worth reading.

May 05, Luna rated it liked it Shelves: I thought it would cover the affair as well but I suppose that will be next book. This mostly surrounded Eliza being lonely and Hamilton being away all the time lol. Nice read just not super amazing.

Mar 05, Megan rated it it was amazing. Yet unbeknown to Eliza, Alex has given Washington an ultimatum in order to secure his own battalion, which would result in Alex going to the front lines of the war. I cannot wait to see where this journey will take us next. May 28, kenzie may semi-hiatus rated it really liked it Shelves: At the end of the book it did say that there's going to be a third book, and if she doesn't make the cover yellow, I'm going to be extremely disappointed.

While I do feel as though its predecessor was far better than this installment, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read that I breezed through in one afternoon. Something I love about Melissa de la Cruz's writing is that she is very I did read de la Cruz's note at the end of the novel, however, I'm not altogether keen on altering history to that degree Alex and Eliza not having children in the way that their real-life counterparts had --and had similar issues with the Hamilton musical though it is one of my all-time favourite musicals taking such liberties.

For some readers, this may make or break the novel.

Alex, Eliza, Angelica and Peggy are just as lovely as the first time we saw this variation of them. I do wish we could see things from the two other Schuyler sisters at some point. And I absolutely adored the little Easter eggs Melissa da la Cruz placed throughout the novel as a nod to the musical Hamilton. There was just something undeniably fun about the combination of history and the hit musical.

As long as readers don't go into this with expectations of spot-on accuracy re: Overall, it was a nice read that will take readers to a place of history and keep them company for a bit of their day. It was exactly what it should be--fun! Jun 10, Julie rated it liked it Shelves: I would recommend this series if you have a passion for the American Revolution and enjoy learning about it, because I could defiantly see how some might find these books info-dumpy and a little stale.

I, however, love the Revolution, and I found myself fascinated by what I was reading. But I really didn't think there was enough conflict in this one. For having a broken heart on the cover, I wish there was more angst and drama! All the love, Julie Dec 04, Teresa rated it did not like it Shelves: Well this was just paaaaaainful for me. After disliking so much of the second half of book one, I'm not sure why I continued.

Especially since I wasn't remotely engaged at all. I blame audio and morbid curiosity for seeing it to the end. The names and places and some historical fact such as that may be accurate, but everything else was just a bunch of juvenile Hamilton fan fiction. So much of it felt either too modern, trying too hard, and just too tween-ish for such important figures.

I really Well this was just paaaaaainful for me. I really just didn't like any character or the over dramatization. I will not be reading the final book. May 23, Mrs Mommy Booknerd http: This book is fantastic. It was one of those books that I was not sure what to expect and adored it cover to cover. I loved that there was history mixed into the story in such a way that makes history come alive.

The love story is so compelling and the book was nearly impossible to put down.

I love that is challenges the reader because you are feeling everything with the characters, you are on the journey with them. A delight and the best type of book for book clubs and summer! Aug 24, Peyton rated it really liked it Shelves: While not the most historically accurate, it was interesting and made me excited for the next book and seeing Hamilton in October.

Apr 17, Heather Hughes rated it it was amazing. Yes, shame on me. So, this series is initially my first encounter with any kind of Alexander Hamilton history Obviously, I had to get used to the timeline and dialogue style. I really got into the story of Alexander and Elizabeth, so I was naturally excited to read this second installment. Obviously, I did look up a little research on their marriage and learned interesting things. I was wondering if it might be included in this story, considering the title itself. So, I do wonder if it may be included or if his mistress will be in the next story.

This affair thing, though, is going to be forever in the back of my mind because I had no idea until after I looked it up. It kind of harms what I initially to believed to be a perfect marriage.
